hidden colors

Saw this beaut today. That's all I have to say about that. It's Stuart Davis, "Ready to Wear", and I like it. I dig American Modernism, and this is a fine example of it. I spent the afternoon at the Art Institute today, otherwise known as "Home away from Home" to me. You know when you walk into a place, or a good friend's arms, and you're Home? AI is one of those places for me.  I start with the Modern Wing, because I know I'll appreciate Abstract Expression more before I head on over to 20th Century European and American Modern, where the brushstrokes and composition are slightly more impressive (to me), I must say.

But there isn't much else in the world like a good Jackson Pollock.  Most of the other pieces in the room pale in comparison to his, you get lost in the layers of "Greyed Rainbow", and the subtle colors revealed in the bottom half of the painting hints that he might be playing a trick, like this whole painting was once full of color, but he covered it in 10,000 layers of blacks and whites and greys.  That's life, getting covered in layer after layer after layer, or maybe it's the opposite, layer after layer after layer is being peeled away, stripped. Revealing colors we didn't know we had, hidden radiance that just takes time.

I like your ideas about layers...being covered or unveiled.
You thinker, you.
